Why I do . . . what I do . . .

Mon Oct 6, 2008, 10:12 AM
My goal as an artist is to translate concepts normally attributed to verbal and written communication into paint – to create visual representations of concepts using hyperbole, uncomfortable and inappropriate juxtaposition, emotion, obvious and layered meaning, adverbs, and exclamations. While I do not expect everyone to connect to every piece, my sincere hope is that viewers with life experience and some imagination will be able to approach at least one piece of my work and say . . . "I know what that feels like."; Because truly I endeavor to paint the feelings, the thoughts, and the moments that have made themselves into postcards in my mind. It is not easy to translate shame or despondence into something tangible, nor to obsess over an insignificant detail that may support an intended analogy, but those are the pursuits that, when wrapped tightly into the soul of each piece, give each one its mass. I want my pieces to reach carefully into the mind of the public and stimulate memories. Maybe scratch at an open wound or two. Sit the populus down on the red couch and ask about its mother, family, and why it is that it stays in such an obviously tortured, dysfunctional relationship. I enjoy the thought that even though no other person shares my memories or the scars that are my inspiration, at the very least they may share a passion for the subtleties, philosophy, psychology, and expressions associated with them, wrapped in the wrong colors and warped to fit the uneven plane of conscious thought, that make life as interesting as it is.

I'm glad I found my way to your art. I am fascinated by the creativity and ability to provoke thought with such unique images.

Was pleased to see you liked my watercolor enough to place her (Adult Child) in your fav gallery. She is in good company here.

You have an amazing gallery. Your work really makes me slow down and think while looking at it, which I feel like a lot of art on DA doesn't...or at least not often enough. :+devwatch:. I look forward to future pieces.
